The Holiday Season is upon us. While many people look forward to this time of year, there also people who experience stress and anxiety during this time of year.
In Social Work, we use grounding techniques to help people cope with issues. The techniques help people step away from negative or challenging emotions, memories, or flashbacks to refocus on the present.
I decided to give a Christian twist to what is knows as the 333 Grounding Technique for Anxiety. The 333 technique has you use sight, sound, and body movement to ground you in the present. Here is my version:
- Read 3 of your favorite Scriptures
- Say, out loud, 3 blessings God has done in your life lately.
- Kneel or sit down if you can’t kneel. Put your hands together in prayer position. Take a deep breath in and slowly let your breathe out. While kneeling ask the Lord to take away the anxiety and replace it with His peace that surpasses all understanding.
