Today’s reading was Acts 17, 1 through 34, and I’m just going to give a quick little synopsis of it. Basically, it was about Paul and Silas going and preaching about Jesus and how they ran into problems everywhere they went.
There were people that were resistant to to hearing about a new God. The Greeks, some of them listened, some didn’t. But everywhere Paul went to preach, there was resistance and people wanted to arrest him. They wanted to drag him out before the leaders and hurt him. Paul kept staying one step ahead of them.
I started thinking if when I did the Messy Mary if I was meeting a lot of resistance and people were coming after me chasing me down, would I continue to do it?
We’ve got it pretty easy here in America when it comes to our Christianity because we are allowed to have our own choice of religion. Nobody’s telling us we can’t talk about Jesus here in the U.S.
In some other countries, they can’t talk about it. They have to have churches underground. They have to meet in small houses. They have to worry about being persecuted, hung, or killed. And we just sit here talking about whatever we want on social media, in our homes, at work, all those things.
So, if my life was being threatened, would I still do the Messy Mary podcast? I would hope so. I would hope that I would stay firm in my belief to continue to talk about Jesus regardless if my life was threatened or not. But I don’t know.
That just made me really start thinking about back in the early church days when they were just getting the churches started. It was hard. They came against a lot of resistance, a lot of threats, and they just kept doing it. I hope I would continue to speak up and be bold, but it does make you think. Have I grown complacent have we grown complacent our my faith?
Just things that make me go, hmmm…
Until next time with Jesus’ help let’s be less messy and choose what’s better.
